Christmas and Class

I was chatting with Mexican friends the other day about the mountains of glossy catalogs that are delivered with newspapers in the weeks running up to Christmas.  It prompted me to re-post extracts that I showed a year or two ago showing the gifts available for everyone from business associates to humblest servant.

Here’s a canasta (basket).  US $275

Canasta bulging with liquor, coffee, chocolates

Here’s a despensa (larder).

Despensa with cereal, rice, dried milk, and cooking oil

And then there’s this cubeta (bucket) for $11.

That would really make your heart rise on Christmas morning, right?

i like living where i am, becos this sort of christmas gift hamper thing simply doesnt exist here, altho hampers with cretan goods are getting popular as part of the drive towards nationalistic marketing, and greece’s main tangible portable exportable is, of course, food

I'd love to know your thoughts
