Life versus Blog
Things are moving fast here. We are back in Mexico, will live in Mexico City not Queretaro, and have a complicated move coming up in the next few days. That accomplished, I hope to start posting regularly again, working my way through a huge backlog of topics I have notes on: more on cous cous, culinary aesthetics, semitas roundup, US versus Mexican grocery stores, sustainability and its confusions, culinary nostalgia, white bread, Chinese bakers, how to think about migrant cuisines, lots and lots of good stuff.

Aww, I hope that your reasons for not living in Queretaro after all wasn’t anything bad, especially nothing related to the city or its people. Good luck with your move!
Nothing whatever to do with Queretaro, lots to do with deciding not to commute back and forth between Mexico City and somewhere else!
Can hardly wait for all those scintillating topics!
Had thought that you would be in USA a little longer.
Sounds good, Rachel. Take your time – we’ll be here when you return. ;)
Hope the move goes well! Take your time, settle in, live life, blog later!

Rachel ! Do be careful out there. We’ll be patient ’til you get settled. Lucky you, being in the Mexico of my birth. Most of my life I ‘ve dreamed of mingling, researching,& mingling with it’s people to help maintain the traditions I grew up here in the USA through the teachings of my parents. Currently I am calling to your readers for any original recipes of the traditional sugar skull or calaveras de azucar (done the old world mexican way) before cream of tartar existed. We made some in November here in Bakersfield,CA for DiaDeMuertos, but I still want to get more original than the beautiful ones we produced . I voluntarily coordinate this huge event here as community service on Nov. 2nd every year. Gracias everyone!!!Many blessings to you.
Sounds like a wonderful event Cruz. I’ll post about this in the next few days.
Oh yes, Rachel I highly recommend you to buy the CD or see the Ixchel Marimba orquestra of Queretaro, complete with the old timey salterios. They are highly professional young ladies, boys & youths who perform throughout Mexico. When they came to Bakersfield, our dance group “Soluna Mexican Folk Ballet” danced @ our sister city Bakersfield/Queretaro event. They are the best I have ever heard! They even stayed long enough to play for our county fair. It was these CDs we rehearsed with before they arrived in California. It was wonderful when we connected in person on stage, I only felt bad there was no time to ask about their Queretaro foods
