Food News from My Part of Mexico: Wal-Mart and Mexico Sabroso
According to the local paper AM.
Yea, Wal-Mart’s supposed to be coming to town. I know, I know that strikes a chill into the heart of many. But the city director of economic development assures everyone that it will be tucked away so as not to damage Guanajuato’s image as a UNESCO Patrimony of Humanity. And it will give the two local supermarkets (part of the same chain) a run for their money. And maybe it will help the city in general. Right now, everyone who has a car drives the forty miles to the booming shoe and furniture town of León about 40 miles away to do all their shopping.
Mexico Sabroso sounds good too. It’s a TV series on the history and cuisine of the different states of Mexico. It will be directed by the Guanajuatense Joaquín Yamín Morales and editing and production will be in León. National Geographic and the History Channel will apparently show it in the US.
